He obtained his Fellowship in Orthopaedic surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2010.

Dr Ottley was then appointed as Clinical Fellow to work alongside Professor Fares Haddad, an internationally recognised expert in the the field of Hip and Knee surgery and Editor in Chief of the Bone and Joint Journal, undertaking further specialist training in University College Hospital London, England. In 2013 Dr Ottley established private practice at the Brisbane Hip and Knee Clinic and has worked extensively in the surgical management and care of patients with both general and complex conditions of the hip and knee joint.

Joining the Brisbane Hip Clinic in 2020, Dr Ottley further advanced his ability to offer first class and world leading treatment options and service to his patients, as well as deepening his already significant interest in the area of hip joint surgery.

Currently Dr Ottley holds an appointment as a Visting Orthopaedic Surgeon at St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital. He also has an ongoing commitment to public practice and training orthopaedic surgeons at the Ipswich General Hospital.
