Telemedicine Requirements
1. Meet eligibility criteria.
- Live at least 15km outside of the Brisbane CBD.
- Have an up to date referral from your Doctor.
- Capability to perform video conferencing (both audio and visual) by Skype.
2. Access to device with video conferencing capability.
- Usually this is a computer with video camera (attached or in-built) but may also include iPhone, iPad or similar devices.
- HD (high definition) cameras are prefered but not essential.
- For computers without in-built cameras, suitable video cameras are relatively inexpensive and can be easily installed (usually a simple USB attachment).
3. Internet access.
- Faster internet speeds are preferable as it allows better quality images and smoother conversation.
4. Skype account.
- A free account can be created at www.skype.com.
- Video Conferencing between Skype account holders is a free service.
5. Suitable environment.
- Quiet location with a minimum of background noise and good lighting is required.
- Consider that you may need to demonstrate standing, walking or show surgical incisions.
6. Imaging/ XRays/ Scans available.
- We will require access to any relevant investigations previously performed. See notes in our Telemedicine Checklist.
